About Usman
(He/Him)
Throughout my journey in medicine and public health, one realization has stood out to me: true healing requires more than just treating symptoms—it demands an understanding of the whole person, their culture, and the barriers they face in navigating support. My approach is both collaborative and empathetic, focusing on building a strong therapeutic alliance where you feel heard and understood. I aim to create a safe space where we can explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, while integrating your personal values and experiences, allowing us to address underlying issues and develop practical strategies for improvement. I am dedicated to helping you achieve meaningful and lasting change in your life.
My journey to becoming a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) began after graduating from medical school, at which point I pursued a Master’s degree in Public Health, where I developed a deeper understanding of the social determinants of health, cultural influences, and the barriers within the healthcare system that can limit effective care, particularly for marginalized populations. Combined with personal experiences within my own family, where I witnessed the challenges surrounding mental health, I was drawn to psychotherapy. Being a psychotherapist allows me to address not only the individual’s emotional and psychological needs but also the broader cultural and systemic factors that affect mental well-being, offering a more holistic and empathetic approach to care.
My approach to therapy is rooted in both the biological and psychosocial aspects of mental health. I use evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness to help clients work through their struggles. I provide trauma-informed and client-centered care, ensuring that each therapeutic experience is tailored to the unique needs and goals of my clients. This approach ensures that my clients receive compassionate care, founded in scientifically sound interventions to ensure we create the meaningful change you are seeking.
I offer support to adults, families, and youth (10+) for a wide range of concerns, from mood disorders, depression and addiction to body image, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship challenges. For those dealing with trauma and PTSD, my goal is to help you process your experiences and rebuild a sense of safety and control. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward greater well-being and personal growth.
Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m a father of two young children, and spending time with my family is one of my greatest joys. I love playing sports, cycling, board games, and gardening with my boys. Being a parent gives me a deeper understanding of the challenges many families face, and it allows me to connect with clients, especially parents and families, on a more personal level. Balancing my professional and personal life keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of maintaining a healthy, fulfilling life outside of work.
