About Junie
(She/Her)
As a therapist, I am deeply committed to creating a warm, safe, and inclusive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful growth and change in their lives. My approach is collaborative, working alongside clients as we navigate the difficulties you are experiencing and any unhealthy patterns preventing you from living a life aligned with your personal and therapeutic goals.
My journey into the mental health field began in 2017 when I embarked on my first master's degree in music therapy. Coming from a performance-based background in classical music, I found a refreshing shift in how I related to music—moving beyond technical precision to explore deeper expressions of emotion and connection. Throughout my studies, I discovered a variety of ways to engage with music, using it not just as a medium for performance but as a tool for healing and personal growth. This transformative experience sparked a passion for supporting others. Once completing my program, I became a licensed psychotherapist and music therapist and started supporting people in a wide arrange of clinical settings.
While music therapy was my entry point into the field, talk therapy is also a central and crucial component of my practice. I understand that not everyone feels comfortable using music or other art modalities in their therapy, or they may find that verbal expression is a more natural way for them to communicate their needs and emotions. Therefore, I focus on psychotherapy as a whole, ensuring that clients know I am grounded in evidence-based therapeutic approaches that are tailored to meet their individual needs. This allows for a flexible and personalized approach to therapy, where we can explore different modalities, including but not limited to music, depending on what resonates most with the client.
I incorporate a diverse range of therapeutic modalities when working with individuals, youth, and couples, tailoring my approach to ensure our work creates actionable change in your life. These modalities include relational psychotherapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, play-based interventions, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). My experience as a therapist spans various care settings which has included tertiary care, private clinics, the justice system, and non-profit organizations. In these settings, I have had the privilege of supporting children, teens, young adults and couples facing emotional and relational challenges, working through grief, and living with chronic and complex health needs. This diverse background allows me to bring a holistic perspective to my practice, enriching my ability to support clients in their healing journeys.
When I’m not working, I’m hiking, camping, playing piano, singing, reading, or on a FaceTime call with my family dog! While I’m not a great cook, I’m also a food enthusiast. Finally, I love traveling to different provinces of Canada.
