About Tanya

(She/Her)

I know how uncomfortable vulnerability can feel. My focus as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental and deeply affirming space where you can feel seen and heard while we explore the challenges you are facing. I bring a warm and curious perspective to our sessions as we delve into your unique life experiences and how they have shaped where you are today. Through our work together, I aim to help you develop deeper self-understanding, self-compassion and a stronger connection to yourself and your needs.

My journey to becoming a therapist began later in life after experiencing a wave of losses that left me feeling scared and lost. I embarked on a self-reflective and therapeutic journey that helped me to access the courage I needed to build a new life that felt inspiring and held greater meaning and purpose. I chose to leave my career in film and television to continue my education at the University of Toronto, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Gender Studies and Cinema.

My approach to therapy is attachment-oriented, meaning that we will explore how early relationships have shaped your emotional experiences and influenced how you relate to yourself and others. I draw from emotionally focused approaches to better understand how your emotions have influenced your thoughts, actions and behaviours. I integrate Internal Family Systems, which can provide the framework to further understand and heal our most protective and wounded parts and I am influenced by systemic and intersectional perspectives as I recognize how broader landscapes impact our individual experiences. I also integrate useful strategies from dialectical behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based self-compassion.

I work with individuals (10+), couples/dyads and families and feel especially passionate about supporting clients through difficult life transitions such as starting over, career changes, break ups, separation, divorce and the challenges that can arise in blended families. I also have experience working with parents and children to help them reconnect, as well as supporting individuals and youth with ADHD and various other behavioural exceptionalities and learning disabilities.

Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, which mostly includes being outdoors and exploring unique, novel and strange places. I am an avid runner, a hobby photographer, and an impressive thrifter. I have an elaborate Pinterest board filled with inspirational DIY’s that I aim to one day complete as I build my personal oasis away from the busyness of life.
